My #OneWord365 is …
“One word can change everything. One word that sums up who you want to be or how you want to live or what you want to achieve by the end of 2012. One word that you can focus on every day, all year long. It will take hard work, and will require intentionality and commitment. But if you let it, your word will shape you and your year. It will guide your decisions and help you grow.”
So my friend Alece (@GritandGlory), the creator of ONEWORD365, has me thinking. She has me thinking about one stinking word and it’s driving me CRAZY, in a good way! Choosing this has been a lot tougher than I could have ever imagined. However, I think I’ve landed on ONE WORD for 2012.
                                  CONTENTMENT
Now this is a word that I’ve struggled with for such a long time. However, I’ve often mistaken this word for “stagnant” or “dormant” and sometimes even “inactive”. As I researched this word recently, I’ve discovered that this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Being satisfied can bring a peace to your soul, and even to your day. Being content means to me that I’ve recognized that I am where I’m meant to be. Of course in the past I’ve always felt that being “content” meant that this could stifle your creativity, and water down your ambition. Well, there’s nothing wrong with looking ahead and planning for the future. Being ambitious and continuously dreaming and creating, but at the same time being satisfied in the prominent foundation of where you’re planted. Basically, making the main thing the main thing.
My ONE WORD 365 for 2012 is “CONTENTMENT”

I love your word "contentment". As you said, it doesn't mean that one can't be creative or aspire to 'higher lofts", but it means one is happy to be "In the Skin I'm In", as Woody Russell sings.Check him out on You Tube, out of Austin—so pure and raw!. No pretense there!! As the song says, there are a lot of "detractors" out there, so we need to be "in the moment."
My word is LAUGHTER. In my opinion, there needs to be lots of laughter, especially as one grows older. Steve and I have been through a lot in our 44 years, and if we couldn't see humor, even in the darkest of hours, we wouldn't have survived.
Thanks Diane for the comment. That means a lot coming from you. Also, I love your word “Laughter” and I couldn't agree more. I definitely think that most of us in the world take things way too seriously, including myself. Thanks again for chiming in! I love it
I didn't know where else to write this, but I thought it might fit in with your subject of contentment.
Two weeks ago when Nolan spent the night with us, he decided he wanted to sleep with me. (Yikes)!! Ha
When we were all settled in, he said to me, "Would you rub my head the way my Dad does?" He then took my old hand in his tiny one, and proceeded to show me how you do it. I thought it was the most beautiful thing, and wanted you to know what a great Dad he and I think you are. To me, that was the epitome of CONTENTMENT.
